Long Screw Damage:

How 0.5mm Kills Your Logic Board

One wrong screw. That's all it takes to permanently destroy a $400+ logic board. A screw just 0.5mm too long penetrates through the circuit board layers, severs copper traces, and creates irreversible short circuits. This guide shows you exactly where the danger zones are — and how to never make that mistake.

IT HAPPENS IN SECONDS

THE 0.5MM MARGIN FOR ERROR

Every iPhone contains 20-30+ internal screws ranging from 1.1mm to 6.8mm — and they are NOT interchangeable. A single screw placed in the wrong hole can penetrate the multi-layer PCB, severing the microscopic copper traces that carry power and data signals between critical components. This damage is permanent — no amount of software reset, DFU restore, or factory reset will fix it. Based on analysis of over 2,000 repair cases in board-level repair communities, long screw damage accounts for approximately 10-15% of all DIY repair failures.

One extra millimeter of screw length = PCB trace severed permanently
Wrong screw hole = CPU, RAM, or display power lines short-circuited
Mixing Phillips and Y000 screws = thread damage + screw gets stuck deeper
Most dangerous area: Display Connector Bracket — 3 different screw sizes in one bracket
100% preventable — follow the screw organization rules below
☠️

THIS DAMAGE IS IRREVERSIBLE

Unlike most repair mistakes, long screw damage cannot be undone. The severed PCB traces are buried deep within the multi-layer circuit board. Board-level micro-soldering repair costs $200-400+ and has a success rate below 70%. Prevention is the only real solution.

VISUAL COMPARISON

PROTECT YOUR LOGIC BOARD

Long Screw Damage

A screw 0.5mm too long has penetrated through the standoff, cracking the PCB substrate and severing multiple copper traces. The red glow indicates short-circuit zones where power lines now cross data lines — causing permanent malfunction.

Healthy Logic Board

Clean screw standoffs with intact copper traces running underneath. Each screw hole is designed for a specific screw length — the standoff height precisely matches the screw to prevent contact with traces below.

THE SYMPTOMS YOU'LL SEE

ALREADY TOO LATE?

If your iPhone shows any of these symptoms after a repair — no backlight, dim display, boot loop with Error 4013, blue or red screen on startup, non-functional touch, dead camera, or 'No Service' — you may have long screw damage. Use our diagnosis tool to check.

Visual Proof Area

YOUR DEFENSE SYSTEM

Three Rules. Zero Risk.

Follow these three principles and you will never cause long screw damage. Every MEEFIX Fix Kit includes tools and guides designed around these rules.

MAGNETIC SCREW MAP

Use a magnetic project mat or labeled paper template. Remove screws ONE bracket at a time, place them in order on the mat. Never pile screws together. Label each group with the bracket name.

ONE BRACKET, ONE GROUP

The golden rule: remove all screws from ONE bracket → place them in order → complete that step → then move to the next bracket. Never remove screws from multiple brackets at once.

WHEN IN DOUBT, STOP

If a screw doesn't seat flush with the bracket surface, STOP immediately. It's the wrong screw. A correct screw will thread smoothly and sit perfectly flat. Any resistance means wrong hole or wrong screw.
